Summary

The photodisintegration of the deuteron is investigated after including both the retardation effects and the effects of the nucleon magnetic moments on the electric-multipole interactions in the earlier work of the Yale group. The expressions for the electric-and magneticmultipole interaction energy between the radiation field and nucleons as derived in the paper by Breit and Rustgi are used and the general procedure of an earlier paper by Rustgi, Zernik, Breit and Andrews is followed. The numerical calculations for a number of realistic nucleon-nucleon potentials are carried out and detailed comparison with the data for gamma-ray energies varying from threshold to 180 MeV is made.
