Summary
A classical model of the extended electron has been worked out. An electron is regarded as an extended spherical charge stabilized by Poincarè stresses arising in a medium. In addition to the electrostatic energy of the region inside the charge, we include the stress energy of the medium. This choice is justified and leads to a solution for which the electron mass is 43me,mec2 being the total electrostatic energy. In addition to the determination of the radius and the distribution of the rest energy between the inside and outside of the charge, the theory also predicts charge and charged-mass distributions for the model.
