Summary
The multiperipheral integral equation of Chew, Goldberger and Low, restricted to the case of forward scattering, is modified in order to accommodate a Regge cut or multiple pole as input. It is shown that the leading output singularity is either a simple pole or a branch point, depending on the nature of the input singularity and the strength of its coupling. The mean multiplicity of particle production is discussed in each case. For a particular value of the coupling strength a self-consistent solution is obtained corresponding to an asymptotic behaviours/(logs)β, where β=2/3 if the input trajectory is flat and β=1/3 if the trajectory rises linearly. Examination of the nonforward case shows that the output singularity should be regarded as a pole and a branch point which coincide in the forward direction, the pole residue vanishing at that point.
