Vacuum structure for indefinite-metric quantum field theory

Summary

An approach to indefinite-metric QFT is presented in which the fundamental state of the theory is constructed by taking advantage of the existence of infinitely many unitarily inequivalent representations of the commutation relations. Use of the metric operator η is avoided. Physical states are positive normed states. The probabilistic interpretation of the norms is fully recovered. An application to a simple model is given. Considerations on the statistical aspects of the construction conclude the paper.

Si studia il problema della metrica indefinita in teoria quantistica dei campi considerando la struttura dello stato fondamentale della teoria. Tale stato è costruito utilizzando l'esistenza di infinite rappresentazioni unitariamente inequivalenti della regola di commutazione. Si evita l'uso dell'operatore metrico. Gli stati fisici hanno norma positiva. L'interpretazione probabilistica della norma è mantenuta. Si presenta un'applicazione ad un semplice modello. Considerazioni sugli aspetti statistici della costruzione chiudono il lavoro.
