  9. Clear evidence for τ dependence onE/N is given in ref. (7).Yu. A. Butikov, B. A. Dolgoshein, V. N. Lebedenko, A. M. Roghozin andB. U. Rodionov:Sov. Phys. JETP,30, 24 (1970) A dependence onN has been observed in some of our measurements in Xe (unpublished results), where it can also be seen that τ·N is roughly constant. For instance, atE/N=2.8·10−17 V·cm2, one finds τ·N≈1·1020 s·m−3. Moreover our values agree with those of ref. (7). obtained at a quite larger gas density, when τ·N constancy is assumed.
