Summary
In the classical model of experience rating, optimum premiums are obtained by minimizing squared error loss over suitable classes of premiums containing the constants. As a result of this particular choice of the loss function, the expected values of the Bayes and credibility premiums agree with the net premium.
The purpose of the present paper is to extend the classical model to the case of weighted squared error loss, where the weight is a positive random variable. This model is distribution-free and does not involve any particular assumption on the form of the weight; instead, it is completely determined by general conditions on the conditional distribution of the claim amounts and the weight. Such conditions also characterize asymptotic optimality of the credibility premiums as well as the case where the expected values of all credibility premiums strictly exceed the net premium.
