Summary

It is shown that theS-matrix for the potential

$$\frac{b}{r} + \frac{1}{r}\sum\limits_{n = 0}^N {r^n } \sum\limits_{m = 0}^M {g_{nm} } exp\left[ { - c_{nm} r} \right]$$

is given by

$$S_L \left( p \right) = h_L \left( p \right)/h_L \left( { - p} \right), h_L \left( p \right) = f_L \left( {ip,ip} \right)/\Gamma \left( {L + 1 - \frac{b}{{2ip}}} \right),$$

wheref L(ip, ip) is obtained from an integral equation, which is solved by an iterative procedure. This type of potential is often used to describe the mean field of an atomic ion by which the electron is scattered. TheS-matrix is studied in some detail for the potential

$$\frac{b}{r} + \frac{1}{r}\sum\limits_{m = 0}^M {g_m } exp\left[ { - c_m r} \right].$$
