Anaphylactoid reactions to narcotic analgesics

Conclusion

Athough reports in the literature of severe anaphylactic reactions to narcotics are rare, they occur, and it may be that such reactions are true IgE-mediated reactions, rather than direct histamine release as has been previously believed. Cross-sensitivity between individual opioid derivative members of the fentanyl group od drugs appears likely.
