Conclusion

In surgery, early gastric carcinoma increased in its incidence significantly since 1961 and occupied about 20% of all surgical cases nowadays. However, the case with wide superficial spread of more than 4 cm reaches 47% and cases of small lesion are still encountered uncommonly.

Superficial spreading type occupies the majority of cases and their results are very satisfactory, with 5 year survival rate of 89%.

It is our prospect that many deep infiltrating carcinomas, that is the usual type of gastric carcinoma, would be detected in their early stage of small lesion and become candidates for the early treatment more frequently.
