Summary
In this article we present a simple Heitler-styled model for the development of «anomalous» extensive air showers initiated by primaries of a weaker than hadronic interaction. We look in particular at the lateral density distribution of observed muons in order to examine the distinguishing features of showers induced atypically low in the atmosphere. We find that there is good evidence that such showers can clearly be distinguished from standard showers induced by hadrons.
