Summary
A rare case of haemolytic uraemic syndrome at an uncommon age of 6 years is presented. The pathogenesis of the syndrome is uncertain. Chloramphenicol administered in the present case of typhoid fever is perpaps responsible for microangiopathic haemolytic anaemia. It is not certain whether chloramphenicol itself orSalmonella typhi isolated from the stool was responsible for the initiation of microangiopathic haemocytic anaemia. The pathogenesis of the syndrome and the literature are reviewed briefly.
