Conclusions

1.
Power engineering in the Magadan region for a long time was based on uneconomical thermal power stations that used local and imported coal as well as expensive imported diesel fuel, which was accompanied by constant difficulties with supplying power to consumers and led to holding up the rate of development of industrial production of the region.
-
2.
The Magadan region has the richest hydropower resources that created the prerequisites for developing an effective fuelless, environmentally clean power industry in the region. Already now 90% of the demand for electricity is met by the first-born of hydropower in the Magadan region—the Kolyma hydrostation, which fundamentally changed the conditions of supplying power to consumers serviced by the central power complex (CPC) of the Magadan power system.
-
3.
An analysis of possible directions of future development of the energy base of the Magadanénergo CPC indicates that power engineering of the Magadan region should be oriented at the further use of the effective renewable hydropower resources of the Kolyma River. In accordance with this, the construction of the Ust’-Srednekan hydrostation should be completed in the shortest possible time and the creation of the hydrostation-regulator in the upper course of the Kolyma River should begin at the start of the 21st century, which will make it possible to improve significantly the power indices of the Kolyma and Ust’-Srednekan hydrostations, having maximally approximate the power production regime of these hydrostations to the power consumption regime.
-
4.
Realization of the indicated program will make it possible to replace the electricity of thermal power stations by cheap hydropower, which will lead to a reduction of the rate for electricity and to an increase of competitiveness of the gold-producing industry representing the base of the economy of the Magadan region.
