Serum and urinary alpha aminoacid nitrogen and free aminoacids in newborns

  • Published:
The Indian Journal of Pediatrics Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

Alpha aminoacid nitrogen and free aminoacids in the cord serum and urine were studied in 37 newborns. The levels of alpha aminoacid nitrogen were higher in the urine than in the serum whereas the total free aminoacids were more in the serum. The immature babies had elevated alpha aminoacid nitrogen in the urine and serum. The total serum aminoacids were lowest in the immatures. More aminoacids were detected in a larger percentage of the full-terms and less aminoacids in a lower percentage of the immatures. The level of alpha aminoacid nitrogen had an inverse relationship with the birth length. The ratio of serum to urinary essential aminoacids was 17.9 and 2.4 times higher in the immature babies and the small-fordates respectively as compared to the full-terms.
