The structure of liquid bromine

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

The neutron diffraction pattern of liquid bromine near the melting point has been obtained up to a very large value of 4π sin θ/gl by the crystal spectrometer installed at the Ispra-1 reactor. The analysis of the intensity data leads to a radial distribution function showing clearly that, in the liquid at room temperature, the bromine molecules are not freely rotating. Moreover, on a short range order scale, it seems that the main features of the structure of the parent solid, are preserved during the melting process.
