Inelastic π^--p interactions at 7 GeV

Summary

The angular distribution of pions observed in two-prong π^--p interactions in emulsion was investigated. It was shown that π^--meson observed in interactions of the type π^-+p→p+π^-+kπ⁰ (k=1,2, ...) are collimated forward in the π-π center-of-mass system. This result indicated that a certain fraction of the observed events corresponds to elastic π-π-scattering having diffraction character.

Si è esaminata la distribuzione angolare osservata nelle interazioni π^--p a due rami. Si è mostrato come i mesoni π^- osservati in interazioni del tipo π^-+p→p+π^-+kπ⁰ (k=1,2,…) sono collimate in avanti nel sistema del centro di massa dei π-π. Questo risultato indica che una certa frazione degli eventi osservati corrisponde a scattering π-π elastico aventi carattere diffrattivo.
