Abstract

This work treats lithofacies and hydrogeochemical features of the Late Paleozoic sedimentation on the eastern Russian Plate and the geochemistry of principal types of brines, which are spatially and genetically related to halogenous formations. It is shown that the density convection of primary magnesian chloride brines, which inflow into underlying Paleozoic and Proterozoic rocks from Permian evaporite paleobasins, plays the principal role in the formation of chlorocalcium brines that are predominant in the sedimentary cover of the Volga-Urals sedimentation basin. The problem of metamorpbization of brines by exchange-adsorption and hydrolytic processes in terrigenous rocks and the problem of metasomatic dolomitization of limestones are discussed.
