Radiation-gauge electrodynamics

II. - The asymptotic condition

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

The use of the asymptotic condition in electrodynamics is criticized and an alternative approach suggested which utilizes specific properties of the radiation-gauge Green’s functions. This technique is based upon the introduction of a nonlocal field operator which has the property of asymptotically creating physical electrons without the usual emission of soft quanta. It is shown by means of an example how a cross-section may be calculated without either the appearance of spurious infrared divergences or the improper imposition of an asymptotic condition.
