An investigation of jets based on meson-nucleon collision. Interpretation of nucleon-nucleon collision

Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

An investigation on jets of energy of ( 1011 ÷ 1015) eV has been made on a basis of an interpretation that nucleon-nucleon collisions may be regarded as being composed of two independent composite π meson-nucleon collisions. A method is developed of deriving the momentum distribution and energy of the π meson in the proper field of the nucleon using the experimentally observed distribution of the secondary particles of jets. The experimental distribution of \(\omega ^ * = \sqrt {\mu ^2 + q^2 - q\cos \theta } \), and the momentum of interaction are compared with theoretical predictions, calculated on a basis of Planck’s distribution for the momentum of the π meson in the proper field of the nucleon. Basing on the above results, several possible models of the structure of the nucleon and the nature of nuclear interaction are discussed.
