One- and two-particle inclusive distributions in pion- and proton-nucleus interactions at 300 GeV

Summary

We report the data on 300 GeV pion-emulsion-nucleus reactions and compare the results to proton-emulsion-nucleus reactions at the same energy. In particular we present results on the one- and two-particle inclusive pseudorapidity distributions. Two-particle distributions are investigated by using the correlation function formalism. The dependence of one-particle inclusive spectra on the projectile and nuclear excitation obeys <v> scaling. Short-range correlations are observed for pairs of charged particles. No differences are observed between the analogous correlations in pion- and proton-nucleus interactions.

Riassunto

Si riportano i dati su reazioni tra nucleo e emulsione di pioni a 300 GeV e si confrontano i risultati con le reazioni tra nucleo e emulsione di protoni alla stessa energia. In particolare si presentano i risultati sulle distribuzioni inclusive di pseudo rapidità ad una e due particelle. Le distribuzioni a due particelle sono studiate usando il formalismo della funzione di correlazione. La dipendenza degli spettri inclusivi ad una particella dal proiettile e dall’eccitazione nucleare segue la variazione di scala di <v>. Si osservano correlazioni a breve raggio per coppie di particelle cariche. Non si osservano differenze tra le correlazioni analoghe in interazioni pioni-nucleo e protone-nucleo.
