Sulla radioattività del potassio

  • Published:

Summary

Recent work on the radioactivity of K40 is discussed. Then a new experimental determination of the ratio λK- between the decay constants through K-capture and Β-emission is described. The Β- and X-rays (the latter resulting from the K-capture) emitted by a thin cilindrical layer of KF are counted in a coaxial G.M. counter, Β- and X-rays can be prevented from reaching the counter by the insertion of a magnetic field, respectively of an aluminium foil absorber, in the space between the counter and the KF layer. From the observed difference we deduce λK-0,1.
