Abstract

We investigated the influence of the structure anisotropy caused by solid-phase extrusion on the microhardness of polyethylene with ultrahigh molecular weight and a polymerization-filled composition “polyethylene with ultrahigh molecular weight-bauxite.” Empirical relations between the microhardness. the degrees of crystallinity and molecular draw, and yield strength are determined. It is shown that the anisotropy determines the value of the microhardness. The relation between the microhardness and yield strength for the materials investigated is identical to that for isotropic materials.
