Abstract

The demand for oil is an increasingly global matter and any analysis of oil demand must take into consideration the global forces governing it. Oil demand is tightly linked to the transport sector and that relationship is likely to continue to be strengthened. This paper discusses the recent forecast by DRI/McGraw-Hill for oil demand out to the year 2020 and identifies geographic areas of the world that are likely to dominate growth in oil demand in the next two decades. The link to the transport sector is specifically addressed in this paper, as are the potential effects of environmental concerns around the world.
