Reversible phenomena in amorphous metal alloys

Abstract

In amorphous materials without original cracks and dislocations in the structure, mechanical loadings cause the coalescence of point defects of the type of vacancies followed by the development of cracks [1]. Plastic deformation changes the nature of active centers, the relief, the area of the surface, and, hence, the kinetics of the electrode process, and decreases the corrosion resistance of material. However, the insufficient data [2,3] does not enable one to unambiguously describe the influence of tensile stresses on the corrosion resistance of amorphous metal alloys.
