Additional information

This paper was prepared for the United States Office of Education under the provisions of Title VII of the National Defense Education Act of 1958, and presents a general summary of AV communication research together with suggestions on areas needing further investigation. The author was requested to undertake this assignment as a preliminary study to be used in connection with the early planning for the administration of Title VII. His report represents an important first step. A great deal of further analysis and appraisal of new media research is needed. This will require the coordinated efforts of many individuals and institutions over an extended period of time.

Although the Office of Education agreed to the publication of this paper because of the current interest in research with new educational media, such publication does not necessarily constitute an endorsement of the views expressed by the author.
