Summary
The Baltic Sea Ferry Guidance and Information System (BAFEGIS) is a project initiated by the German and the Swedish Maritime Administration comprising ECDIS onboard and in VTS centres in conjunction with broadcast AIS, as well as shore-based route monitoring and customized hydro-meteorological forecast ser vices. The ECDIS are provided with official ENCs and regular updates by the German and the Swedish Hy drographic Service. Currently four ferries are operating between Rostock/Travemünde and Trelleborg involved. The organization of the project and the role of ECDIS in VTS and future VTMIS are described.
