Abstract

Adsorption of trimethyl-substituted sulfonium, selenonium, and telluronium iodides on the armco-iron in 0.5 M H2SO4 is studied by the capacitance method. The compounds studied proved to be highly efficient inhibitors of the cathodic hydrogen evolution. The contribution of organic cations and anions to the total retardation of the cathodic process is evaluated. Some assumptions on the adsorption mechanism are proposed.
