Summary
Using Roper-resonance exchange (mass ≈1470 MeV) in the Born approximation plus a pole term as input forces, theND −1 integral equations are solved numerically by means of matrix inversion for the single channgel ɛN→ɛN in theJ P=1/2+,T=1/2 state. The ε-meson is anS-wave 2π resonance (J P=0+,T=0) at a mass ≈ 700 MeV, while the Roper resonance is regarded as a bound ɛN state. Self-consistent values for the Roper-resonance mass and coupling constant are obtained. When continued to nonintegral values of the orbital angular momentum, the calculation yields a Regge trajectory for the Roper resonance which is in very good agreement with the one deduced experimentally.
