Abstract
Carbon reduction of fly ash from the Reftinskaya thermal plant was studied at temperatures from 1100 to 1600‡C in a nitrogen atmosphere. The ash was analyzed chemically and by x-ray diffraction. Β-Sialon phases with compositions Si3Al3O3N5 and Si2Al3O7N were obtained by ash reduction. Conditions for the preparation of Si3Al3O3N5 were optimized.
