Abstract

Rehabilitation of those with impaired hearing must start as soon as the handicap is diagnosed. Ideally auditory and speech training should be initiated before the age of 3 years. Hearing aids should be fitted, and the training started on ‘synthetic’ line (dog and not ‘d’-‘o’-‘g’). Unisensory auditory approach with informal multisensory one offers the best result for the development of speech. The parents should take active part during the training sessions and at home. The subject with multiple handicaps should wear the hearing aid for all the 24 hours. Gratifying results are possible.
