Conclusions
The combination of electrochemical techniques contributed to the knowledge of the corrosion mechanism of Co-Cr-Mo alloy under in vitro conditions. The X-ray diffraction technique permitted identification of some phases formed on the surface. The corrosion resistance of this alloy in 0.15 M NaCl was higher than the resistance of those presented by the cobalt and chromium under the same experimental conditions. Its corrosion mechanism involves the spontaneous formation of a film with dielectric properties, which protects the metal surface.
