Serum creatine phosphokinase (CPK) Isoenzymes in perinatal asphyxia

Abstract

Two newborn infants with perinatal asphyxia are described in whom serum levels of all three isoenzymes (MM, MB and BB) of creatine phosphokinase (CPK) were elevated. The possible mechanism of production and the implications of these findings are discussed, and it is suggested that caution must be exercised in utilizing these data to predict either the immediate prognosis or the longterm outcome in individual infants.
