Summary
The partial-wave Bethe-Salpeter equation for two equalmass particles is reduced to infinite systems of linear equations for the two special cases when the spectral function is given by i)σ(μ 2) =g 2 δ(μ 2−μ 20 ), ii)σ(μ 2) =g 2 θ(μ 2−μ 20 )[μ 2−μ 20 ]−η+1, whereμ 20 >0, 0<η<1 andθ(μ 2−μ 20 ) is the step function. This reduction seems possible only after the Wick transformation has been applied initially. The coefficients of these systems of linear equations are then analytically continued to all physical values of the energy below the production threshold and involve only single integrals which are easily evaluated numerically. It is found that the linear transformations which these systems of linear equations (with the analytically continued coefficients) define, are compact in Hilbert space for all physical values of the energy up to some value a little below the production threshold.
