Conclusion
A baby born with spina bifida cystica is a major problem medically and socially. These patients should be treated only in centres capable of managing multiple problems and proper rehabilitation. It is also clear that preoperative selection is more relevant to our society, where only meagre facilities for social welfare exist at present. The present series indicates the pitfalls on both these counts.
