Neonatal surgical emergencies (2)—Emergencies without respiratory embarrassment

Conclusion

The aggressive treatment of neonatal surgical emergencies is justified, if the survivors are to develop into normal individuals. In some abnormalities, such as, meningomyelocoele, there is always residual mental or physical handicap, and the parents should be made aware of this prior to treatment.
