Abstract
The diagnosis of hip fracture is confounded by a significant proportion of patients who have a fracture but whose radiographs are negative because of osteopenia or degenerative osteophytes. Additional imaging is needed in these cases to establish the diagnosis quickly, thereby avoiding the complications and costs associated with diagnostic delay. This review describes the utility of magnetic resonance imaging in the evaluation of posttraumatic hip pain in patients with negative radiographs.
