A cellular-automaton model for cooperative effects in matter-radiation interaction: the semiconductor laser

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

A two-dimensional cellular-automaton (CA) model is proposed for a semiconductor laser system, showing qualitative behaviour in agreement with actual performances. The relevance of this approach to the description of the switching on of catastrophic optical damage in the active material and the subsequent dynamics is discussed. Promising aspects are underlined such as the possibility of describing complex-geometry cavities or laser cavities that are changing in time.
