Summary

Using the newU-matrix theory in quantum mechanics developed recently by the authors, we study the energy expectation of one-dimensional electron gas interacting through a pairwise potential identical to the one used by Tomonaga. Our result is different from that obtained by Mahan using the same Hamiltonian. We analyse the source of difference—arising basically from the transformation of a fermion system to a boson system.
