Point transformations and scattering by a hard core

Summary

The scattering of a particle by a hard-core potential is considered from the point of view of co-ordinate transformations. A transformation that deforms the radial co-ordinate leads to a regular velocity-dependent potential and a modified static potential. The arbitrary function involved may be chosen to reduce the core to arbitrarily small size for the transformed Hamiltonian or to remove it completely. If the deformation extends over all space the phase shifts described by the new Hamiltonian are displaced by thes-wave contribution. If the deformation tends to zero at large distances, all the scattering is contained in the Hamiltonian. The transformation serves to generate a family of Hermitian, velocity-dependent potentials with the correct zero-energy scattering behaviour.
