DynamicalSU 3 model for strong interactions and ψ-particles

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1965-1970)

Summary

A simple model, based on the group embeddingSU 3SU 3,1, is proposed as a mechanism for the strong interaction. Excited states of the quark (antiquark) belong to the representation (l0) ((0l)) of the maximal compact subgroupSU 3, and are separated equally along the third axisZ. The scheme leads to a definite prediction for a meson spectrum produced in the e+e annihilation, as well as to the ratioR(q 2 → ∞)==σtotal(e+e → hadrons)/σtotal(e+e → μ+μ). A possibleSU 3,1 interpretation of the ψ-particle is given and the relation with the other schemes such as the colourSU 3 SU3 ×SU3 and theSU 4 charmonium \(c\bar c\) is briefly discussed.

  10. After completing the present work, we found that the basis similar to (2.11) is also considered byBacry as a basis for the coherent Hilbert space of the relativistic three-dimensional harmonic oscillator. In fact, (2.11) corresponds to the coherent state in the c.m.s. as it should be. States with differentl values correspond to the different discrete Hilbert spaces of the coherent states. However, here we shall not pursue this point further.H. Bacry:III International Colloquium on Group Theoretical Methods in Physics (Marseilles, 1974). See alsoA. M. Perelomov:Comm. Math.
