Summary
The (α, Y) angular correlation in the reaction X+13C → Y+α+13C has been analysed, by using helicity states, whose Lorentz transformation properties make different choices for the angular parameters available. The possibility of disproving a two-step mechanism for the reaction is derived in a special case, emphasizing some effects of the coupling between spin and orbital angular momenta.
