Summary
It is shown that a dip at — t=4 (G-eV)2 with a sequential second maximum in the 200 GeV/c π-p elastic scattering are explained by the colour singlet part of the qq (or qq) amplitude f 1q , which is assumed to be dominated by the almost-flat « pomeron » amplitude, within the framework of the quark multiple-scattering model.
For the large colour octet part of the qq (or qq) scattering amplitude f 8q , dips occur in the calculated cross-section at —t = 0.9 (GeV)2 and — t = 2.6 (GeV)2. We find the contributions of f 8q and its multiple scattering series to σT(π-p) must be less than 1.4 mb in order to explain the dip at —t = 4 (GeV)2 apparent in the data.
