On quantum-mechanical ergcdicity conditions in connection with averaging methods

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento (1955-1965)

Summary

Ergodicity conditions obtained by an averaging procedure are studied. In linear theorems this method is proved to be equivalent to the use of statistical mixtures of projector-type instead of pure ensembles. Conditions recently proposed by Prosperi and Scotti are clarified to give a relation between some arbitrary subspace a and the Hamilton operatorH: if and only if b is turned uniformly throughout the energy shell, it satisfies the ergodicity conditions. An equivalent statement is {ie201-01} for every energy eigenvector φϱ.
