Phenomenological electrodynamics in Rindler space, when the background medium is inertial

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

The electromagnetic theory for a radiation field contained within an infinite, homogeneous and isotropic dielectric medium, at rest in inertial space, is worked out with respect to one of the Rindler wedges. The governing equations for the field, together with the constitutive relations, are derived in Rindler space, and the fundamental TE, TM, and TEM modes are constructed. Even when the medium is dilute, the presence of medium-induced phenomena, in particular the dragging effect, makes the theory essentially different from that pertaining to a vacuum field.
