Zusammenfassung

• 1. Der Pilz dringt im Infektionsbereich durch das Oberflächen-Periderm in radialer Richtung in die Rinde vor.

• 2. In der Rinde breitet er sich kaum in axialer Richtung aus, dafür mehr in tangentialer Richtung um den Wurzelumfang. Von der Rinde her stößt er aber vor allem in das Holz vor.

• 3. Der Einbruch des Pilzes in das Holz erfolgt vornehmlich über das Baststrahl-Holzstrahl-System.

• 4. Die Ausbreitung des Pilzes im Holz geschieht zunächst innerhalb der Holzstrahlen, so daß der Befall rasch in radialer Richtung zum Zentrum der Wurzel fortschreitet.

• 5. Vornehmlich von den Holzstrahlen aus wächst der Pilz in das axiale Holz hinein.

• 6. Dadurch entsteht im Holz meist ein sehr typisches, keilförmiges Befallsbild.

• 7. Erst wenn der Pilz während der Infektion das Wurzelzentrum erreicht hat, beginnt er sich im mittleren Bereich des Wurzelholzes in axialer Richtung auszubreiten.

• 3. The infection of the wood by the fungus occurs largely through the parenchymatic system in both xylem and phloem.

• 4. In the wood the fungus grows first within the parenchymatic wood rays; thus the infection expands rapidly in radial direction towads the root center.

• 5. From the wood rays the fungus grows axially into the wood.

• 6. Therefore, the wood shows a very typical wedge-shaped infection picture on the cross-section.

• 7. As soon as the infection has reached the root center, it begins expanding in axial direction in the middle of the root wood.
