Non-abelian gauge strings with charge and current

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento A (1965-1970)

Summary

A model consisting of anSO(3) gauge field coupled to a single Higgs scalar isovector is considered. An Abelian gauge symmetry, identified with the electromagneticU(1) gauge symmetry, survives the spontaneous symmetry breakdown. It is shown that the theory admits cosmic string solutions which, being topologically unstable, possess finite lifetimes. Solutions exist which describe strings with electric charge accompanied by a current.
