Quantitative drop analysis. V. Determination of iron in simple and biological media

Summary

A method for the volumetric determination of 2 to 15γ of iron in small samples is described. It makes use of standardized drop analysis apparatus and technique throughout.

The method depends on reduction of iron in known volume with liquid cadmium amalgam, and the re-oxidation of the iron with ceric sulfate, the excess of which is determined by titration.

With simple solutions and blood, the mean error was about 1 to 2 percent, and the maximum error 4 percent.
