Summary
The basic features of the geometric-optics technique are rederived with emphasis on the applications to Tokamak plasmas and as a necessary preparation to numerical computations of rays, power deposition and amplitude transport along the rays. The hypothesis of a vanishingly small anti-Hermitian part of the plasma dielectric dyadic is used throughout to permit the usual physical interpretations of transport of energy, although the WKB procedure is certainly consistent with strong damping.
