By means of a natural method for the quantization of a massless real scalar field in an expanding universe, it is proved for a Friedman-like model that the time evolution is not implementable in four dimensions, yielding some pathological behaviour of the operator of the total number of particles. This pathological behaviour is not present in the two-dimensional model.
