Vibration amplitudes of silver surface atoms

Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

Atomic vibration amplitudes at the Ag surface have been evaluated by means of low-energy electron diffraction. The mean-square displacements have been determined in a direction normal to the (100) surface and normal and parallel to the (111) surface. The experimental values in the normal directions are in agreement with those we calculated by means of a simple treatment. On the contrary, the experimental value in the parallel direction is surprisingly higher than the calculated one.
