Hydrodynamic response of inhomogeneous metallic systems

  • Published:
Il Nuovo Cimento B (1971-1996)

Summary

The response of an inhomogeneous metallic system is treated within the hydrodynamical theory in which the constitutive equation is obtained via a quasi-static extension of the theory of inhomogeneous electron gas. Formal expression for the frequency-dependent dielectric function of a metallic surface is derived and applications to other systems such as electron-hole drops in semiconductors are discussed.
